Crypto in College? 5 Russian Universities Offering Courses

After a high demand, this academic year, students at five top Russian universities now have the opportunities to learn about Bitcoin and other cryptocurriences, as well as, blockchain technology.

Moscow State University offer Bitcoin Courses

1) Moscow State University

Moscow State University, a reputable, coeducational public school, announced it will be offering new cryptocurrency courses. In a statement to Bitcoin.com, Sergey Studnikow, an MSU managing board member and economical faculty member who runs the Analytics Matter Master’s program stated they will offer several masters classes in different programs to which they invite industry representatives to speak.

2) Higher School of Economics

Higher School of Economics, one of the largest and leading universities in Russia, announced they will be including cryptocurrency as a topic in their Financial Technologies course. The course is included in Financial Technologies and Data Analysis master’s program. The master’s program was launched jointly last year with the state-owned Russian Bank, Sberbank.

3) Saint Petersburg State University of Economics

Saint Petersburg State University of Economics is a newer university, formed in 2012 by Saint Petersburg State University of Economicsjoining Saint Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, Saint Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics, and Saint Petersburg State University of Service and Economics.

Denis Gorulev, an Associate Professor of the school’s Faculty of Economics and Finance stated that two sections of the school’s program on banking, finance, and financial markets would be dedicated to cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

4) Moscow Institue of Physics and Technology

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, also known as Phystech, announced that it would be incorporating programming aspects of blockchain technology into its courses. The university describes themselves as one of the top five highly-regarded Russian universities for scientists, students, and engineers.

Andrey Raigorodsky, Director of the school’s Applied Mathematics and Informatics, stated that there was a high demand for the course by both students and employers. The demand stems from the university’s industrial partners, like Sberbank, opening new laboratories and conducting research on the topic.

5) National University of Science and Technology

As Russia’s primary technological university in regards to steel-making and metallurgy, the National University of Science and Technology announced that they signed an agreement with the government-owned bank, Vnesheconombank.

The agreement is to create a center for new materials and innovative, breakthrough technologies that will include a focus on blockchain technology. Students will learn about “Bitcoin and other aspects of innovative financial technologies”, the university stated.
