Last week, I connected with Jonny for an hour by phone to learn more about his company Gaze Coin. The token sale for Gaze Coin begins on November 28th 2017 and has started to attract attention from investors and advisors. With an impressive advisory board including Jeremy Lam from OmiseGo, Gaze Coin is a company to take a deeper look at. Jonny Peters is the founder and CEO of Gaze Coin, a company and platform specifically designed to solve the monetisation challenges of virtual worlds, bridging the gap between the promise of VR/AR and the ability for brands and content owners to capitalise on it.

He is an award-winning mixed-reality producer, director and world builder with over 20 years experience of leading-edge creative vision. He has a Masters in Virtual Worlds, which included a paper that became the blueprint for his virtual reality (VR) proof of concept ‘Dream Channel’.

Jonny’s most recent production ‘Dream Channel VR’ is a 90 minute choose your own adventure series set inside a VR world, which was nominated in the Cannes Film Festival 2017 VR Section. He is also the creator of Gang Green, the world’s first VR reality format for television.

What do you love most about digital currency?

I think the most exciting thing for a company like ours that is preparing for an ICO is the opportunity that digital currencies provide to fund an innovative new business model that could disrupt a market. Digital currencies often get bad press and seem scary to the general public but I think there’s much more that should be said about the innovation they are helping to fuel.

Looking more specifically at the dynamics behind the best known digital currencies right now, it’s been a tumultuous year for prices and I’m sure there are still some big headlines to be written. Obviously the actions of regulators have had a big effect, with the Chinese ban probably taking the prize for biggest news story of the year.

Who do you admire most in the industry and why?

I’m lucky enough to work with some heavyweight industry names in our advisor team of Jeremy Lam, George Samman, Travis Rice, Kunio Okuda, James Sugrue and Evan Luthra.

One of the most well known members of our team is Bok Khoo – better known in blockchain and cryptocurrency circles as Bokky Poo Bah. He serves as CTO/Chief Scientist for Gaze Coin as part of his commitment to bringing decentralised exchange technologies such as https://cryptoderivatives.market/ to the Ethereum blockchain.

He’s also involved in online development communities at ethereum.stackexchange.com and r/ethereum on Reddit, where he also moderates the r/ethdev subreddit.

What do you see in the future for Ethereum?

We definitely think the future will be good as we’re betting on it!

The Ethereum blockchain has experienced a lot of activity of late so that can bring uncertainty with it. The Byzantium hard fork has been completed now and all the reports from the people in charge have been positive. There’s also the possibilities for Plasma and Gaze Coin are actively planning for the move to a Plasma based blockchain the future.

I saw a report that one of the best indicators of price for cryptocurrencies was developer activity on the underlying blockchain and there’s a lot of activity with Ethereum right now.

How do you see your business growing?

The roadmap in our whitepaper outlines the main developments for the business and the platform, depending on funding targets we hit. Our first priority is to build the Gaze Coin API/Wallet so developers can start to monetize their AR/VR worlds. After that, it’s about building out a series of development tools to make awe-inspiring VR/AR worlds possible. These include branded cities, navigation systems, mixed reality platforms, and games.

Outside the blockchain space, developments in the world of VR are obviously crucial for our business too. We saw Mark Zuckerberg announce that Facebook’s Oculus division would be releasing the ‘Go’ device that tackles the issues of high price and portability of devices that had been holding back mass adoption. That’s great news for the industry but I also believe that a proper advertising and monetization model for VR needs to be implemented if the market is to really grow. That’s the problem we’re trying to solve at Gaze Coin.

What’s your biggest pet peeve about digital currency?

I think the most frustrating thing about digital currencies is the onboarding process for people that want to get involved. It’s quite a long winded process and I think it puts people off their initial interest. Also, individuals can be penalised by banks for using digital currencies, such as when they cash out their profits, which just seems wrong.

When you consider how many people now want to get into digital currencies, I think this situation has to change. Gaze Coin’s Bokky has tackled the problem with his Token Teleportation Service Smart Contract (BTTS), which eases the process of using crypto-tokens for non-crypto users, and I expect there’ll be more new services to solve this problem over the next few months and years.
