With Bitcoin soaring, perhaps it’s no surprise that one of the internet’s oldest institutions is going crypto. Craigslist, the popular C2C sales and personals platform, has added a checkbox to sales listings allowing sellers to indicate they’ll accept cryptocurrency as payment. Buyers can also filter listings to browse only items whose sellers are willing to accept crypto.

The platform’s fundamental identity as a listing site hasn’t changed, of course, so Craigslist isn’t going to actually process any crypto payments itself. You’ll still have to agree on the details of a crypto sale with the other party, just as you would with any form of payment.

This addition doesn’t represent a sea change in terms of how Craigslist works; in theory, any Craigslist user could buy or sell with tokens like Bitcoin already as long as the other party agree. But it is the latest in a series of signs that cryptocurrency is going mainstream. It also represents a good way for crypto enthusiasts to find each other locally, and put their crypto holdings to practical use.

As of this writing, you’re not likely to find much on the site you can pay for with your coins. The feature is so new that even in major cities like New York, only a few new listings have ticked the “cryptocurrency OK” box. But given the rising awareness of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, it’s probably only a matter of time before more Craigslist users start buying and selling with crypto.

And if you’ve got something to sell yourself, you can make a crypto-friendly listing on your local Craigslist site right now.
