Metal sponsoring Necker Cup 700x400

Lending A Hand To Help Those In Need

We covered Metal previously in a review of their token that outlines how their business and tech works.  Beyond releasing an alpha version of their wallet that rewards users with their native cryptocurrency (set to release October 30th, 2017), Metal is currently positioning themselves to be a leader in social change.  For 2017, Metal will be the presenting sponsor of The 2017 Necker Cup a well-known event hosted by Sir Richard Branson.

The Metal Foundation

Recently, Marshall Hayner introduced the Metal Foundation.  Metal not only wants to become a top company in the crypto industry with their wallet, but also wants to do good for the world in the wake of natural disasters and by helping charitable events and causes.

By utilizing big brands and top influencers, the Metal Foundation has set aside 2,000,000 $MTL tokens to be used to meet their goals.

The announcement of the Metal Foundation was in no doubt great timing.  With September being one of the most active months on record for Atlantic hurricanes in U.S. history, it’s pleasing to see a familiar face in the crypto world stepping forward to be a part of the rebuilding process for many devastated islands in the Caribbean.

Metal’s Sponsorship of The Necker Cup

Early in September, I saw that Metal was gearing up for something big.

The teaser image had many speculating as to what Metal was up to, would it be a rewards card with Virgin or an exclusive event hosted by Sir Richard Branson?  At the time, no formal announcement was made but a few users were close to hitting the nail on the head.

Over the next few weeks, there wasn’t any big news to come from the Metal team, outside of dev updates on their wallet.

Then, on October 13, 2017, I noticed a Tweet from user @bennybigcrypto:

After seeing Marshall quietly “like” the announcement, it confirmed this was the news everyone was eagerly awaiting, even if there wasn’t a large press release surrounding it.

Reading more about the Necker Cup for 2017 defined the special purpose of this year’s event.  Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Unite, will be using 100% of the proceeds to assist their beneficiaries in an effort to rebuild the British Virgin Islands and surrounding territories and nations.

Since Hurricane Irma and Maria both battered the BVIs, and many other Caribbean islands, The Necker Cup will be held this year at Baha Mar in the Bahamas from November 27th to December 1st, 2017.

The Necker Cup is an annual Pro-Am Tennis event that raises money through silent auctions.  Attendees can bid on different events, form a team and compete in friendly competitions against today’s top tennis stars.  If tennis isn’t your thing, there are many activities to get involved with such as exclusive dinners, networking events and outdoor water sports.

2017’s event will be one of their more meaningful events to bring in pro athletes, celebrities and donors alike in a centralized location to raise money to help those in need. The video below showcases the highlights from last year.

More celebrities and athletes are expected to be announced leading up to the event, but for now some confirmed guests include Kim Clijsters, Grigor Dimitrov, Justin Henin, David Nalbandian, and Greg Norman.

It’s refreshing to see Metal allocating 2,000,000 $MTL tokens (currently worth $16 million) to support charitable events and bring awareness to good causes.
